The biggest snowman in the world was built in 2008 in Bethel, Maine, USA. It was 113 feet (34.4 meters) tall and took 15 people more than three weeks to build. The snowman was made from 12,500 tons of snow and had a 60 foot (18 meter) wide base.
The main ball of the snowman was 20 feet (6 meters) tall and 40 feet (12 meters) wide. The nose was made from a carrot measuring 8 feet (2.4 meters) long and 4 feet (1.2 meters) wide. The eyes were two 6 foot (1.8 meter) diameter truck tires painted white.
The mouth was a black inner tube measuring 10 feet (3 meters). The arms were two pine trees measuring 30 feet (9 meters) tall that were cut down for the purpose of this project. They were placed into holes that were dug out with an excavator and then filled with concrete to stabilize them.
This record-breaking snowman stood until it began to melt in late April 2008.
